In Memory of John Borbonus

I took a trip home the week before finals when I was told that I was the 2007/2008 recipient of the John Borbonus memorial scholarship. John's father, Hans Borbonus is one of the owners of Falcon Crest Golf Course and faced a difficult year when John died while serving his country in Iraq. They began a memorial golf tournament, and now a scholarship foundation. This is Hans... There was a memorial service for him on what would have been his 21st birthday, May 12, 2008. This picture was everyone paying their respects and listening to Taps. Other soldiers from his regiment spoke to his courage and admirable qualities that he took with him in battle and with the rest of his life.
His mother, father, and uncle (as well as everyone else in attendance of the memorial) wiped their eyes as his commanding officer spoke about his bravery as he sacrificed himself to save the rest of his fellow soldiers.
Mom donated a catering to Falcon Crest that was lovely and delicious. There was also a live auction and many other local Idaho companies stepped up and made donations to ensure others will be able to apply for the scholarship in the future. He was being recognized for his achieving the Silver Star! Dave gave a very nice speech about why I was selected for the scholarship and announced that I'd be working at Falcon Crest this summer. I also received a rose! He and Dodo were the ones who really rallied for me to get the scholarship.

I was very tired from the 18 hole scramble in the wind but did greatly enjoy time with my mom and dad. They were helping me toward the end of the night to study for my Psychology final because I had it the next morning at 8 a.m.
